Energy Envelope and Attenuation Characteristics of High-Frequency (HF) and Very-High-Frequency (VF) Martian Events

ABSTRACT Since its deployment at the surface of Mars, Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) instrument InSight mission has detected hundreds small-magnitude seismic events. In this work, we highlight some features two specific families: high-frequency (HF) and very-high-frequency (VF) We characterize shape energy envelopes HF VF events with parameters: (1) delay time td between onset peak dominant arrival; (2) quality factor Qc, which quantifies decay rate in coda. observe that envelope is frequency independent. As a consequence, single suffices to broadening 2.5–7.5 Hz band. The typical coda also independent, as attested by close linear increase Qc frequency.
